The Nigeria Chapter of Pharmacometrics is pleased to highlight a significant step forward in the development of our local pharmacometrics capacity. Two of our members—Jacinta Nwogu-Attah and Babatunde Adeagbo—are embarking on enriching professional development journeys that promise to strengthen our collective expertise and impact.
Advancing Skills Through Global Exposure
Jacinta Nwogu-Attah has been selected as one of three inaugural fellows for the Africa Research Excellence Fund (AREF)-Genentech/Roche Research Development Fellowship. This opportunity will allow her to join the Clinical Pharmacology team at the cutting-edge Genentech laboratory in San Francisco, California.
During her time at Genentech, Jacinta will work on a range of advanced pharmacometrics modelling projects, spanning pharmacokinetics (PK), pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD), and physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modelling. This is more than an international experience; it is a focused opportunity to acquire technical skills that will directly contribute to strengthening research and application capacity within our Nigerian pharmacometrics community.
Jacinta has expressed her commitment to leveraging this opportunity to support knowledge transfer and collaborative projects upon her return—an inspiring example of how global exposure can serve local development.
Growing Capacity Through Professional Engagement
In a similar spirit of growth, Babatunde Adeagbo has been awarded the Low and Middle-Income Country (LMIC) Award from the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT). This award supports including researchers from underrepresented regions in global pharmacology dialogues, offering Babatunde access to training, mentorship, and scientific exchange at the highest levels.
His participation will provide valuable insights into international trends in clinical pharmacology while reinforcing approaches tailored to the unique healthcare landscapes of countries like Nigeria. It is a significant step in building a stronger, more informed PMX community here at home.
