About the speaker
Dr. Ian Haworth is Vice Chair of the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Mann USC School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He received his PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry from the University of Liverpool, UK, and then spent three years as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Oxford, UK, before joining USC in 1992. Dr. Haworth has a major role in teaching of medicinal chemistry and biopharmaceutics in the PharmD, PhD and Masters programs at USC, and he has lectured and taught courses on this content worldwide.
Dr. Haworth’s research work lies at the interface of chemistry, biochemistry, and computational research in pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. This work involves development and utilization of algorithms for prediction of ligand-protein interactions, coupled with methodology for pharmacokinetic simulations. Dr. Haworth’s laboratory has published over 100 scientific articles on this work. Current projects include examining the relationship of affinity with solvation at drug- protein interfaces; exploration of parameters used in PBPK modeling; and use of molecular informatics and AI for prediction of molecular properties.
